We are all aware of the changing patterns in our climate, that appear to
be bringing longer periods of warm, damp weather - ideal conditions for
bugs to thrive. Bearing this in mind we are constantly looking for ways
to improve our formulations in order to keep our products the most
effective and best value for money on the market, whilst at the same
time ensuring that they are totally safe and kind to the animal, user
themselves and to the environment.

Uses: Designed to keep the largest of flying insects at bay, including midge, bots, horseflies and most importantly calms and soothes the effects of midge bites. Our formulation is ready to fight this seasons influx of even larger, blood sucking and repellent resistant bugs. 'STRONG & LONG LASTING, BUT JUST AS KIND WITH SENSITIVE HORSES IN MIND.'
Contents: A blend of concentrated herbal oils, volatile essential oils and pure avocado oil. Fly repellents can have a drying effect, which is why we include pure Avocado Oil, the very best quality skin and coat conditioner for equine use. In the warmer weather the skin tends to become flaky and the hair dry and coarse. High in Vitamins A, D and E it deep conditions hair and nourishes the skin.
Horse Flies: Our formulation is powerful enough to deter the largest of flying insects. Horse flies are hated by both ourselves and horses, because they really hurt when they bite. They have a knife-like mouthpiece that breaks through the skin by slashing it, in order that they can then feed of the blood. The skin is left with raised, sore and very irritating lumps. Our formulations will soothe and help stop the need to rub.
Directions
for use : Always shake well. Use as and when required. Can be
applied directly to raw and exposed areas and to help stop the need to
rub. Apply liberally avoiding eyes and nasal passages.
Trigger Spray: Quiet, fine action spray ensures full and even coverage.
Refill:
Self explanatory and also very useful if your horse dislikes sprays -
apply using a cloth.
Gel: Very useful for those more awkward areas such as the head,
belly, sheath and udder. Please note that gels can attract the sunlight
and cause burning if not applied sparingly.
Broken
Skin: When animals constantly rub and loose their hair the skin can
become very sore and eventually break open to reveal raw areas where
bacteria can thrive.
Super Plus Fly Repellent is a powerful yet gentle formulation which
can be applied directly to broken and raw areas to stop the need to rub
and so prevent hair loss.
Also refer to 'Anti-bacterial skin Spray' which can be used in
conjunction with 'Super Plus Fly Repellent' to help calm irritation,
give instant protection and aid natural healing.
Raw & Sore Areas : No need to worry about application to exposed and sore areas, the formulation is kind and gentle enough to apply directly to areas which have been rubbed raw. It stops the urge to rub almost instantly and gets to work and soothing affected areas.
Midge Bite (Sweet Itch): Sweet Itch is caused by an allergic reaction to the saliva of the biting midge. This causes intense irritation in the mane, neck area, top of the tail, chest and belly. Usually more prevalent between April and October in moist, wooded areas. Some animals are more prone to the effects of midge bites than others and it normally stays with them for life, so it is very important to use a good repellent that keeps the midge at bay and soothes and calms the effects of midge bites, ensuring that your horse or pony is kept a comfortable as possible.
Sensitivety: Barrier Animal Healthcare appreciates that some horses and ponies have thin sensitive skins. Many such horses suffer allergic reactions to natural or synthetic products and for this reason, if you think that your horse or pony may react to products we advise you to carry out a small patch test before use.
Safety Data: 100% Natural and No Nasty Chemicals. We appreciate that horses and ponies may have sensitive skins and so suffer severe allergic reactions to certain natural ingredients. For this reason, Barrier Animal Healthcare DOES NOT include citronella or vinegar in any of their formulations.
Tried &
Tested & Endorsements:
'I had a great testing place for this product as our fields get full of
midges in the warmer weather. It definately helped to reduce them and
made the horses a lot more comfortable. It was gentle on their skin and
you didn't have to use a large amount for it to work.' Sacha Pemble for
Eventing Magazine - July 2008.
'There are lots of fly repellents on the market and the team at Scottish
& Northern Equestrian (SNE) has tried most of them. The real test
came in the guise of a very midge-populated field one early evening. The
sight was very amusing, horses' and ponies' tails were competing to see
who could do the best impersonation of helicopter rotors, and standing
amongst all this is a very non-swishy-tailed pony, who had been sprayed
with Super Plus Fly Repellent. Smells great.' - Scottish & Northern
Equestrian Magazine.
'It was used on a warmblood and was absolutely brilliant! It was
very easy to use and the gel really made a difference to his mane - it
made it really soft and wasn't greqasy at all. The spray was also
brilliant, lovely smelling, really kept the flies away and was really
easy to use. I would definitely use it again and give it a score of 9
out of 10' - Jessica Pearce
'This is a very effective fly repellent - one application lasts
about 24 hours and keeps away the monster midges we have in Scotland.
The smell is strong but not unpleasant. The trigger applicator covers a
big area, so it is easy to apply. It doesn't stain my horse's coat. I
like the fact that the product is 100% natural and contains no
chemicals. Its good value for money.' Cecilia Emerson.
'My dark bay thoroughbred Jet is another sensitive soul who
attracks flies, so wears a flysheet. I used the gel before hacking,
schooling and dressage competitions. It is very good value for money and
brlliant, but I'd like to see how effective it is against horse flies
as Jet has a very bad reaction to them. This gel is quite strong
smelling, but was easy to apply with a sponge and lasted several hours. I
liked that you could apply it exactly to vulnerable areas and rub it in
and the horse took no notice. It worked very well and score it 8 out of
10. - Debbie McNab.
'13.1hh Welsh x Arab, who suffers from sweet itch. His field has a pond
in it so there are always a lot of midges about. I applied the repellent
in the morning and early evening, and it worked really well. I found it
easy to apply and it wasn't sticky or slippery which is important for
me as my daughter uses him for the mounted games and voulting and so
needs to be able to grip onto his mane'. - Sue Horton-Barr for British
Horse Magazine.
'My horse has bad sweet itch and after using your spray, I put him into
the field at night and instead of rubbing himelf on a tree, he started
eating straight away, and was still not rubbing in the morning. My horse
and I would like to thank you for all your help'. - Mrs E North,
Cornwall.
